About the breed
This is a small dog with a huge amount of energy. It's not a typical couch potato and needs action.
Temperament
The Jack Russell Terrier breed is characterized by a stubborn, intelligent, athletic, and vocal nature. This is a high-energy dog that needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. They are known for their patience and love of children, making them an excellent family dog. As a true terrier, they are brave, lively, and sometimes dominant.
Health & Genetics
The average lifespan of this breed is 13-16 years. Generally, it is a healthy breed, but like any purebred dog, it may have predispositions to certain genetic diseases. Attention should be paid to tartar buildup and patellar luxation. Consistent prevention and a quality diet are key to a long life.
Grooming Needs
The coat is easy to maintain. Occasional brushing with a rubber glove is sufficient to remove dead hair. Regular checks of the eyes and ears, as well as nail trimming, are also important.
Origin & History
Care & Training
Trainability
This breed has a strong personality and independence. Training can be more challenging and requires an experienced handler who can gain natural respect without being harsh. Without sufficient occupation, they can get bored and destructive, so dog sports like agility are ideal.
Space & Financial Needs
This is an ideal dog for apartments and smaller spaces. They don't take up much space indoors. The financial costs of feeding are relatively low, making them an economically undemanding companion.
