About the breed
The world's smallest dog breed with a huge personality. They often bond strongly with one particular person.
Temperament
Chihuahuas are known for their devoted, quick, alert, and courageous temperament. They are relatively calm and don't require excessive exercise. Supervision is recommended around small children, although they are loyal to their family. They love human companionship and dislike being alone.
Health & Genetics
The average lifespan of this breed is 14-16 years. Generally healthy, like all purebred dogs, they may be predisposed to certain genetic conditions. Attention should be paid to dental tartar and patellar luxation. Consistent preventative care and a high-quality diet are key to a long life.
Grooming Needs
The Chihuahua's coat is easy to maintain. Occasional brushing with a rubber glove is sufficient to remove dead hair. Regular checks of the eyes and ears, as well as nail trimming, are also important.
