This spirited little dog is full of energy and pluck. Affenpinschers are fiercely loyal to their families but can be wary of strangers. They possess a strong personality, often acting like a big dog in a small body. While generally good with children when properly socialized, they won't tolerate being teased.
Health & Genetics
Affenpinschers are generally a healthy breed with a life expectancy of 12-14 years. However, they can be prone to patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, and brachycephalic syndrome due to their shortened muzzle. Prospective owners should be aware of these potential health concerns.
Grooming Needs
The Affenpinscher's wiry coat requires regular hand-stripping, ideally 2-3 times a year, along with weekly brushing. Clipping the coat should be avoided as it can soften the texture. Regular checks of the eyes and ears are also essential to maintain their health.

The Affenpinscher is an ideal apartment dog, not requiring extensive space. However, they do need regular exercise and mental stimulation to prevent boredom. Without adequate engagement, they may resort to mischievous behavior.
